William G. Sutherland, D.O. introduced the concept of ignition as a mysterious spark within the cerebrospinal fluid. Later Randolph Stone, D.O. developed a method for working with it. In this post-graduate seminar over 6 half-days we will explore ignition processes using an approach based on Dr. Stone’s original work and further developed by Franklyn Sills. We will engage in online practice sessions supported by the vast suspensory field of Long Tide. We will use Continuum, a mindful, fluid movement and sound practice, to help us orient to our energetic ignition centres within our own fluid bodies.

In preparation for augmenting heart ignition, we will review the embryology of heart development, particularly relating to embryological folding in the fourth week which culminates in the heart meeting an energetic heart centre and beginning to beat as an ignition occurs. We will acknowledge some difficult conditions which may inhibit full heart ignition. We will also practice sensing and augmenting umbilical ignition, which naturally occurs just after birth when the umbilical cord stops pulsing but can be dampened due to various conditions we will discuss. Finally, we will visit conception ignition, which relates to the third ventricle and, as you might guess, is associated with conception experiences. Again, this ignition may have been compromised by challenging conditions which we will consider and can be augmented and clarified through session work. Working with these ignitions can support fuller embodiment and engagement in one’s life.

In that ignition processes are energetic, they are easily perceived and supported online. The seminar is organised over three Friday-Saturday half-days. Each Friday will introduce the ignition process being explored that week, including a demonstration session Cherionna will facilitate with one of the students. Each Saturday session offers the opportunity to practice these sessions with another student online, following a relevant settling meditation and followed by a discussion time to harvest our experience and address your questions. If you prefer, you can do these practice sessions in person with someone you know during our practice time. The sessions can be done with actual physical contact or with the intention of contact that we find can also be remarkably effective online and sensed by both practitioner and client.

Instructor

Cherionna Menzam-Sills

Cherionna Menzam-Sills is a prenatal and birth therapist, movement therapist and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist. Drawing on over 45 years experience, her background includes an M.A. in Somatic Psychology (Dance/Movement Therapy) and a Ph.D. in Pre- and Perinatal Psychology, as well as Occupational Therapy, Massage Therapy, intensive study of BMC and Body-Mind Psychotherapy with Susan Aposhyan and 10 years intensive study with prenatal and birth psychotherapy pioneers, William Emerson and Ray Castellino. She worked intensively with founder of Continuum, Emilie Conrad for the last decade of her life. Emilie authorized her to teach Continuum in 2007.

Cherionna has also practiced Craniosacral Therapy since 1991. She began teaching Biodynamic Cranosacral Therapy in 2007 after completing and assisting two-year foundation trainings with John and Anna Chitty, with whom she apprenticed to become a teacher. In 2008 she and Biodynamics pioneer Franklyn Sills began a romantic relationship. Soon after this, Cherionna began assisting Franklyn in teaching foundation trainings and post-graduate seminars.

Marrying Franklyn Sills in 2010 brought Cherionna to the UK from where she began frequently teaching in Europe as well as continuing her trainings and workshops in Canada and the USA. This included becoming a senior tutor at the renounced Karuna Institute in the UK. These years of co-teaching with Franklyn and endless discussions about Biodynamics deepened Cherionna's understanding and practice of this beautiful work, which informed also her practices and teaching of Continuum and Pre- and Perinatal Therapy.

Cherionna's work is further informed by years of intensive Vipassana meditation practice and other mindfulness practices. She has also studied trauma therapies with pioneers such as Janina Fisher and Bonnie Badenoch.

Cherionna has also authored of three books: The Breath of Life: An Introduction to Craniosacral Biodynamics, Spirit into Form: Exploring Embryological Potential and Prenatal Psychology, and The Prenatal Shadow: Healing the Traumas Experienced Before Birth
